- In the Extensions menu, you will find Grammarly among the listed extensions.
- Select the “Remove” icon next to Grammarly to remove it from my browser.
- After removing Grammarly, visit the Google Chrome Web Store and search for Grammarly.
- Click on Grammarly to open the extension page for Chrome.
- Select “Add to Chrome.”
I added the Grammarly extension back to my browser, which only took a few moments.
Once the reinstallation was complete, I turned on the Grammarly extension on Chrome. I have mentioned the steps to enable the Grammarly extension above.
Go to Gmail, and you will see Grammarly is working in Gmail.
3. Clear Cookies and Cache Files
What else is there to help me when Grammarly is not working in Gmail? I found that clearing cookies and cache files could be a quick fix. Here’s how you can do the same:
- Go to the three-dot menu at the top-right corner of Google Chrome browser.
- Select the “More Tools” option.
- Click on “Clear Browsing Data.”
- A window will appear, and I chose the time range for which you want to clear data.
- Check the boxes next to “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files.”
- Finally, click on “Clear data.”
By following these simple steps, you can easily clear the accumulated cookies and cache files related to Grammarly.
This process often resolves issues and allows Grammarly to work smoothly in Gmail again.
4. Disable or Update Other Extensions

Below are the simple steps to update other extensions on Google Chrome:
- Open the Chrome menu in the top-right corner of my browser.
- Click on “More Tools.”
- Select “Extensions.”
- Slide the Developer mode toggle button to the right.
- Tap on “Update” to make sure all my extensions are up to date.

- Simply turn off the toggle switch.
- To remove it permanently, tap on “Remove.”
I could disable or update extensions, ensuring a smoother experience with Grammarly in Gmail.

5. Update Your Google Chrome Browser
Follow the steps below to update your Google Chrome browser:
- Open Google Chrome.
- Click on the three dots in the top-right corner.
- Click on Settings.
- Select “Help.”
- Next, go to “About Google Chrome.”
- If it shows that Chrome is already up to date, you do not need to do anything.
- But tap on the “Update” option if it needs an update.
- After the update is complete, click on “Relaunch.”
This process ensures that my Chrome browser is running the latest version, eliminating any potential issues that might have been hindering Grammarly in Gmail.

- On the settings page, click on the Hamburger menu (three lines) to open additional options.
- Click on “Reset settings.”
- It will lead you to the “Restore settings to their original defaults” section.
- Click “Reset settings” on the dialog box that appears.
Now, you have reset Chrome to its default settings, potentially resolving any conflicts with extensions or configurations that might have been causing Grammarly not to work as expected in Gmail.
7. Use a Different Browser
